Asia Argento is an Italian actress and filmmaker who is a member of a large family of both. She has pursued these two careers for her own. When she was nine the actress made her film debut with Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 The Church, a film by Michele Soavi The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. In 1989 she portrayed Nanni Moretti's child as the Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). It was with Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she could change from playing young girls, to more mature, complex role. The film was given a positive response at the Cannes International Film Festival. She's made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome and Phantom of the opera. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she's co-produced with her father, the others being Trauma and The Stendhal SyndromeAsia's intense, dramatic style is well utilized in Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozzeIn 1993 she co-starred in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di Via where she portrayed Arianna who was a disabled girl. Queen Margot in which she was also in a key part. In 1995, she collaborated with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again won her a David diDonatello and a Grolla d'oro. Asia began directing short films in 1994. She made two: Prospettive, 1996, she produced a documentary on her father; and Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was presented at the Rome Film Festival. Asia debuted as a feature-length director with Scarlet Diva (2000). In the film, she played the role of a lead actor and also wrote the screenplay. The film premiered on 20 May, 2000, in Italy and around the globe. It was awarded a trophy at the Williamsburg International Film Festival in Brooklyn. Anna Lou was her first born child in the year 2001. After directing several music videos, she welcomed Anna Lou. She was a part of Jean-Marc Barr's performance on The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she starred alongside Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action-thriller. Asia is also the author of a number of short stories, which were published in top magazines.
